Al’s Corner – January 2022

Happy New Year – Al vs. Covid 2

Ok, everyone time for the January 2022 version of Al’s Corner.

International Night on Feb 15th. The event is from 5-9 PM at the Cedars located on 939 Lebanon Drive St. Louis, Mo. Price is $65 which includes Open bar, and Dinner. The Master of Ceremonies is always the best, incredibly entertaining with the speakers usually providing great insight.

Trucking update—equipment is still very tight, shockingly tight.

Al vs. Covid 2I had covid again in late December.  This time it was a non-event.  Slight headache, for a few hours, then the next day, it was gone, though I quarantined for another 5 days. It kind of reminded me of my reactions to the shots the next day, though milder.  It seemed like my body recognized it and stopped or deflected it.  The weird thing about the virus is you really don’t know who you got from?  I tested mostly because a person at a party I had went to, someone I was in close contact with, tested positive.  Immediately, on 2 separate tests, I was positive, I was sad, couldn’t believe it. The slight joke now is who gave it to who?  Since he is a lawyer, and they fib even more than a salesman (me) I think he did.  So, Justin, please be more careful next time!!!!

My Covid Playbook—If you get Covid my advice is to keep moving some throughout the day, keep eating and drinking to keep your strength up.  I also think if you get the first versions of the virus that was mostly a lung thing, don’t lay down all day.  I had it pretty bad in November of 2020 and yes, I was tired.  The uncertainty of if I would get worse was scary, and I think I was on the edge of severe illness. Still, I believed that moving was a key (pulmonary doctor I had read suggested plus I noticed they were turning people over in the hospitals), as well as doing deep breathing in hot showers to keep my lungs functional.  I even kept my streak of 10,000 steps per day going, then, and now I am at 630 days in a row.  One hundred days till 2 years!!! When I look back on when this all started with the virus, I felt that our health care professionals (who have been incredible), coupled with new therapies and technologies would help us win the day.  It has. But it has lasted longer and been worse than what I thought it would.   Things are though looking a little brighter because of so many getting vaccines. The therapies have also worked well, and the latest variant has been milder.

Embracing change–As an old (very) athlete I was motivated and tried to train harder than ANYBODY else back in the day. Business was the same as I have always had a sense of urgency (underrated today), nothing is a given or deserved, every load is important.  But I also learned over the years that not all employees are the same.  Some athletes, or employees do need to be managed, coached, and guided, while others not so much.  What I like now is we as a company continue to do things in an honorable manner, and the way Brad, and I have done from day one, but we needed to stay up to date.  And since we are growing, enter Jason!  “Let it be and embrace change.” (Like the Beatles new documentary) That is my new motto!

Funny thought –Brad and I were talking the other day and discussing technology.  I was telling him how I think this vaccine appears to be a delivery process that could possibly cure and prevent some cancers and illnesses in the future.  They have been working on it for 30 years.  Looking back at our 13 years as a company and technology we both agreed that because Deb (superstar) wanted to move and work in Florida years ago, we were more prepared to have everyone work from home on the screen.  Brad really came through with this and we were ultimately years ahead of most companies. But we were kind of laughing at how far things have come from the first days of computers.  My first one was a Commodore Vic, and such.  Heck, now I even have Netflix and Hulu accounts.  So, compared to what we knew then and what we know now, we would be considered geniuses back in the day!!! Oh well, sort of!!!

Good vibe—a few days ago I bought 2 breakfast sandwiches with the plan of eating both, but only half the bread on each sandwich. Well, my lunch meeting was moved up, so I ate half of one of the sandwiches (the new me trying to eat better and keep losing weight, which is 50 pounds in 6 years).  On the way driving to lunch a man was asking for money at a light, so I gave him the other sandwich.  He ate it fast.  Then after lunch I stopped on 270 and Lilac at a Quick Trip.  Got gas (cheaper in Missouri) and got a coffee (great) and planned on eating half a chocolate donut (love those too).  While I was in line for a few minutes I talked to another man in line.  He was nice, and of a different race than me, which has never been a problem, I talk to everyone.  When I checked out, to my surprise he had bought my coffee and donut!!!  Now I am doing well and own a company, yet he bought mine!  We talked for a while outside and I told him how nice it and he was.  Then I went on to Wood River, IL to pay a man who is fixing a clock for me.  He is a disabled vet who is awesome and very appreciative for the business.  What a day!  Pass it forward.

Have a great month, AL

  18. I don’t need to tell you how important it is to optimize every step in your SEO pipeline. But unfortunately, it’s nearly impossible to cut out time or money when it comes to getting good content. At least that’s what I thought until I came across Article Forge… Built by a team of AI researchers from MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Harvard, Article Forge is an artificial intelligence (AI) powered content writer that uses deep learning models to write entire articles about any topic in less than 60 seconds. Their team trained AI models on millions of articles to teach Article Forge how to draw connections between topics so that each article it writes is relevant, interesting and useful. All their hard work means you just enter a few keywords and Article Forge will write a complete article from scratch making sure every thought flows naturally into the next, resulting in readable, high quality, and unique content. Put simply, this is a secret weapon for anyone who needs content. I get how impossible that sounds so you need to see how Article Forge writes a complete article in less than 60 seconds! order here.
